'SLUGFEST': U.S. Open Champion Brooks Koepka on Sports Illustrated Cover

HITTING NEWSSTANDS TOMORROW, the next issue of Sports Illustrated features U.S. Open champion Brooks Koepka, who owned Erin Hills last week with a 16-under par performance that put him in the record books.

The cover story written by senior writer Alan Shipnuck includes this observation from U.S. Ryder Cup assistant captain Steve Stricker:

"[Koepka] looks like he wants to fight you… He looks like he wants to punch you in the mouth. That's what I like about him—he's got an edge. For sure it's intimidating to play against. You get a guy who is built like a linebacker and pounds the crap out of the ball, and then looks over like he wants to brawl, yeah, that has an effect."

Great to see Sports Illustrated giving Koepka a shot on the cover. His performance at the US Open was magical, although it seems that tournament really is great for unknown golfers to emerge and then do a limited amount in majors, thereafter. It will be interesting to see if he can carry this over, but he's only won one other time on the PGA Tour. Great driver of the ball off the tee, more could learn from him.
